Police Notice to Dr(Prof) KESHAVA PRASAD HALEMANE of NITK-Surathkal, based on a complaint from Mr. U. Dinakar, ex-Registrar-NITK to the PrimeMinister-GoI.

. . . notice issued at my residence on Wednesday 16-05-2012, asking me to appear before the Police Inspector, Surathkal Police Station, within two days; 

. . . and was suggested to me to meet the Police Inspector on Friday 18-05-2012.

On Wednesday 16-05-2012 afternoon i informed Prof.K.C.Shet, Dean-FW, NITK, about the Police Notice that i received.  Dean-FW immediately checked with the Registrar as well as the Establishment Section, and confirmed to me that NITK has not received any intimation about such a thing.  So, Dean-FW said that it must be some thing personal between the two of you.

On Friday, 18-05-2012; the outcome of the visit - 

. . . Sri U. Dinakar was seen to be already present in the waiting line . . . 

. . . and naturally he goes inside first . . . 

. . . then the Police Inspector goes inside to have his Tea(?) . . . 

. . . now comes the turn of Dr(Prof) KESHAVA PRASAD HALEMANE . . . 

. . . who goes in, greeted by Sri K. U. Belliappa, the Police Inspector . . . 

. . . after some conversation, . . . 

. . . mentions about the forwarded emails sent by Dr(Prof) KESHAVA PRASAD HALEMANE to NITK-Faculty-Group-Email-List . . . 

. . . which (some/all) must have irked/irritated some people to the extent of lodging a complaint . . . 

. . . complaint sent(?) by Sri U. Dinakar, ex-Registrar, NITK to the Prime Minister, GoI . . . 

. . . on which the local Police has been asked to investigate . . . 

. . . Police Inspector gives his cell/mobile number . . . 

. . . takes the visiting card from Dr(Prof) KESHAVA PRASAD HALEMANE . . . 

. . . shakes hands . . . 

. . . and bids good bye . . . 

. . . 

[i  decided  not to question the veracity of the claim about the complaint going all the way to the PMO-GoI and coming back to the local police station keeping NITK away from the picture.]

Here is another angle to the perplexity of the issue - why and how NITK can be kept un-informed about such an issue?

On 19-05-2012 a check on <groups.google.com/group/nitkfaculty> gives the following stats - 

(1) the group has 176 members; 

(2) 178 messages posted by me from my email address k.prasad.h@gmail.com and another 91 messages posted by me from my email address kph@nitk.ac.in;

The fact of the matter is that all the so called seemingly contentious messages were those which were only forwarded by me with an intention of sharing the concerned issues with the other members of the group and not written by me.

So it seems that there are members in the group who might have been irritated by the contents of some such messages (or maybe, just simply chose to get irritated due to possible jealousy?) to the extent that they ended up prompting an external person (Sri U. Dinakar, ex-Registrar-NITK, is not supposed to be a member of the NITK-Faculty-Group-Email-List) to take up the issue and complain to the Prime Minister, Govt of India; that too without the direct involvement of the institute NITK authorities.

How are we to think of intellectual-freedom and/or freedom-of-expression, or whatever, and that too at least within an educational environment ?!  Good God ! 

Or, worst - are we to suspect about the possibility that the institute is being controlled by some remote agency/agents on behalf of some vested interests ?!
